Ukrainian grain export declined by 16.9% in 2020-2021

The Government stated that exports were tending to decrease.

According to information from the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy published on Monday, 28 December, Ukrainian grain exports declined by almost 17% to 25.27 million tons this season, which runs from July 2020 to June 2021. Traders sold 8.34 million tons of corn and 3.75 million tons of barley, as reported. They also exported 12.38 million tons of wheat, using 71% of the 17.5 million tons quota set for the 2020-2021 season.

Consulting agency «APK-Inform» reported that export prices of Ukrainian wheat increased by $3 per ton in the last week due to high demand from exporters concerned about the uncertainty of wheat exports from Russia.

Ukraine, which constitutes about 16% of world grain exports, sold about 57 million tons of grain to foreign buyers in the 2019-2020 season. The Government stated that exports could decline to about 44.2 million tons in 2020-2021 due to lower yields.

The Ministry of Economy announced this month that cereal production in 2020 fell to 64.5 million tons, compared to a record 75.1 million tons in 2019.
